Turn signal problem on '74
My turn signals stopped working about 10 days ago. I bought a new Hella turn signal relay and installed it the other day and I still don't have turn signals. What should I check next? Did I miss something very easy?
I have used the "search" tool here, but all of the posts seem to focus on the relay that I've already replaced. Thanks!

see if the round plug from the t/s switch has pulled out of it's socket under the dash. 3 in a row, ign, t/s, wipers.

John,
Thanks! I replaced the rectangular Hella relay at the firewall, behind the gauges, but I didn't know if there was another one I missed...

Art...there is only one turn signal relay. What John is talking about is the cable (wire bundle) from the turn signal switch that plugs into the bulkhead/firewall from the passsenger compartment into the trunk. It is under the dash near the steering wheel on the passenger side of the firewall.

Well, I checked the turn signal relay and the new one is firmly plugged into the plug behind the firewall and nothing is loose, fuses are all good, taillights have all been replaced and I still don't have turn signals. I'm not sure what to check next...

Maybe this will help explain what they are talking about.
![]() This is for a newer car, but they hook up the same. See the round connector with the pins? That connects to another connector under the dash about where your left knee is while driving. Play like an acrobat and climb under there to see if all is connected up. Good luck.

74 turn signal problem
I Just experienced almost the exact same problem with my 74 911. Although, I did have emergency flashers before, I just didn't have turn signals. It took me months of tracking down wiring diagrams and trying different "Fixes". I replaced the relay---twice without results. Then the turn signal switch---that fixed the problem. It was a fairly straight forward procedure replacing the turn-signal switch. I was alittle leery about "pulling" the horn pad off as the book states but it just snaps on in the corners. The pad itself and the plastic base comes off together. From there it's pretty easily.

Dave,
Thanks! I checked under the dash and behind the firewall and everything is hooked up nice and tight... Looks like it's time to replace the turn signal switch!

Hope that works out for you. Like I said it's pretty straight forward. I found that the wires that attach to the back of the lightswitch were easier to access by removing that switch. The knob just unscrews and then there's a spacer that unscrews to remove the switch. Good luck.
