Spring plate swap??

I'm in the middle of a rear suspension drop after removing a turbo tail and installing new Bilsteins, (also found two split CV boots today!!!) more on that later, anyhow, I am looking at the plates and the bushings aren't too bad but each has a little scruffing and slight depression after many years.

While many will say get new bushings, I dont think they are that bad and I just don't feel like doing that job at this point. I'll do them another time.

So my question is can I just swap sides with the plates and get a little more life from the side of he bushing that looks to be perfect??

The plates look identical but I'm a little worried about the outer splines being now with a different mate after so long.

Am I missing someting and or any thoughts on this??

I did this just this spring. My 71' didn't have adjustable plates and I found a nice set from a 930. Just swapped sides and the loaded area is reversed, spline matching shouldn't be an issue. Put a small amount of silicone grease on the bushing before install.

they will still be hard even if not cold-flowed, so you will get more ride harshness than if you put on new bushings

RWebb, the ride isnt bad right now so I assume it will be the same, obviously just not a nice as with new bushings.

the ride should be about the same as now - but it's a hefty amt. of labor -- I'd do it once (or once every 20-25 years) and be done with it. YMMV...

If you already have the springplates off, you have already done the hard part of the work. The bushes themselves are pretty easy to replace. It is just the cost of the parts and about an hour or so of your time.
