What's This...

Howdy,

I'm removing my engine to install a new clutch. While disconnection the 3 wires at the starter I noted a jacketed pair of wires coming out of the tunnel area. The cable ends had no lugs and appeared to have broken off what ever they were attached to. One of the wires is white with a brown stripe, the other is green with a yellow stripe. The cable has a PVC tubing protecting the cable as it runs along the right side of the transmission.

Any ideas would help...

Could be a re-wired reverse switch (Do your backing lights work?), that was my first guess, but when you mentioned the PVC, I wondered, did your car ever have a Kill Switch installed ?

I hate to say this, but I'm not sure I have back up lights. I don't have any white lens. Should I have back up lights?

Yes, I believe the car at one time had a Lo-Jack anti theft system. The pair of wires didn't look like they were cut with dikes, but had ragged ends to them giving the impression that they were pulled. However there was no extra lugs on the starter to indicate the wires might have terminated at one time at the starter solenoid. At the same time the length of the wire looks like it could have been attached to the starter.

Is the engine out yet? The wires(assuming they are reverse) should go into the same harness as the battery wire to the 14 pin, on top of the engine tin, not to the starter.

Donnie,

No, the engine isn't out, but close... I'll be back under the car this afternoon to un-do the CV joints and will look to see where the wire reaches to.

Did the factory ever use a PVC tubing as an insulator? The PVC tubing has what appears to be American labeling. I haven't opened up the trans shifter linkage access at the cabin tunnel yet, maybe I'll see the cable passing thought the tunnel and get a better handle where it's going.

Thanks for everyone's help...
