Car Info

Is there a way to get the build sheet for a Porsche. My 1987 911 Cab. came with very few records and I do not know how to find out all of the original options that car came with.

You can get a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche, but it is often wrong and overpriced.

My mechanic looked up something on my car the first time I brought it to him. It showed a bunch of codes that I suppose you would have to look up in order to figure out what options they were. He tried printing but it wouldn't print out what was displayed. If I had known him a bit better I would have had him do a Print Screen and paste into a Word document. But that may be a free way to get what Porsche would send you.

On the underside of the hood in the trunk is a code option sticker. The numbers can be entered in the decoder at the link below and your options should pop out.

If you want to check engine and chasis serial numvers and verify what you have is from the original build, then the COA if probably your best bet there. But for $125 or $150 it may not be worth it. The VIN tells year, body style and whether it was US or RoW destination. The engine # will tell you build spec's; hp, compression ratio etc.
If you want that info, post and we'll figure it out for you.

I'm trying to find out the original paint code for my SC. I can find no paint code info where it's supposed to be listed on the side of the front trunk, and the car has since been painted black. The PO told me it had originally been a greenish color.

How can I find out what color/name the car was originally?

PS not trying to hijack!

paint code will typically be on the passenger wheel fender under the carpet.

p911girl:

Certificate of Authenticity (if it's right) should tell you the color. You could also try pulling up carpets/trunk linings to see what color the underlying metal is. Even if your car was repainted, there's a good chance those areas were not touched.

Hey Noah,

thanks! I did some preliminary investigating (pulled the carpets up in the backseat and front trunk) and found a neat teal-ish color. I have pics that I will post because I figure someone on here will be able to tell the color, or at least a close one, from the pic.

Thanks guys!
