I'm about to replace the front strut inserts and rear shocks on my '86 carrera coupe with Bilstein HDs. Any suggestions regarding inexpensive "while you're in there" projects that will compliment the shocks replacement? This is a purely street-driven 911, but it may see the occasional DE in the future.
Thanks.

Probably need to look at all your rubber bushings. Torsion bar, sway bar bushings etc. If it is rubber it probably needs replacing especially if they are original.

I replaced my brakes, rotors, brake lines and bearings "while I was in there"...

![]() Checking the rubber in the sway bars would be my suggestion also. If you've got a wheelbarrow full of cash that needs spending, then there is no end to the upgrades you can make. The rear t-bar bushings at the springplates should be evaluated. You can get an idea if they are worn by looking at how centered they are in the springplate cover as the t-bar end comes through.

thanks, guys. With only a thimble of cash, I need to keep this project simple. I was thinking bushings, too, but wondered if there were other essentials I was overlooking. I'll look at the bearings.
As for brakes, great suggestion. I did those last year.
