3.0 Turbo -vs- 3.2
 
Howdy All,

I currently have a 3.2 engine in my off road car. I was wanting more power (dont we all) and was thinking about going to a 3.0 Turbo. My question is about the size of the engine. Are they the same size? Do they have the same tranny bolt size as well? I have a specialized tranny (Mendeola) and need to make sure it will bolt right up if I decide to go this route. Also, what about the power difference. Is there a huge gain in going to the 930 3.0 Turbo engine?

yes there is definetly a nice jump in power, however the engine loses alot of throttle reponse and character... that said its alot faster when used right...

i'm also guessing you mean the 3.3L 911 turbo..... much more common then the 3L turbo carrera engine... either way they make close to 300hp (and easily more)....

someone else will chime in about the fit.....but aside from a different flywheel i believe they are the same (i used to have a 3L block now i have a 3.2L block and they both bolted up to the same tranny)..

930 engine has 240mm clutch, 3.2 and 3.0 has 225mm clutch as far as I know. Flywheels are different too. 930 3.0L engine is somewhat rare, I believe it's easier to find 3.3L one. It's also equipped with intercooler, slightly raised compression and has more power and better driveability to boot.

3.0 has shorter stroke than 3.3 one.

Hmmm So it sounds like if I want a Turbo that I will need to go with a 3.0 Turbo rather than a 3.3 Turbo.

What RPM range do you run in? You won't have much power below 3000 with a turbo motor. How about a supercharger for your 3.2?

Where can I get information on a supercharger? I would love one as the power is 'always on' verses waiting for the turbo to spool up. Can they go on Carbs? I was thinking with the metal air box from the old 2.2s you could seal it up to hold in the pressure of the supercharger and run the super charger off the AC Belt.

Thoughts?

Soory. Brain fart.

What I meant when I said "3.0 has 225mm clutch" was that 3.0 N/A (=SC) has 225mm clutch.

Both 3.0 turbo and 3.3 turbo engines have 240mm clutch. Only difference is that 3.0's were equipped with "short bellhouse" transmission and used different spring-damped clutch. 3.3's were equipped with infamous rubber-damped exploding clutch.

And I believe the G50 trans 3.2's had a 240 mm clutch.... no ?
