First oil change done
 

And geeze, what a pain in the arse.

Gorillas worked on this last, I think.

I do have one question: owners manual says tourge drain plugs to 95 foot pounds. Waynes book says 30.8 footpounds.
Which is right?
I think the Gorillas were following the manual. I needed a long bar to get the leverage to break the plugs free.

I settled for Redline 20-50 cause I coulnd't find the oil I was looking for. Redline thoughts? (aside from the $108 price tag for the oil)
Strange thing.. a customer who called today turned out to be a local Amsoil dealer...says he could get it for me at cost...

I just got my first one done as well. Took about the same time, as I was checking everything twice. Pretty sure I used the 30.8 ft. lb. spec. Lucky for me I guess, PO was not a gorilla! I used the 20W5o Castrol GTX that PO had always used, but I sub'd in 2 quarts of the Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I posted elsewhere that I did see a drop in oil temp.

It wasn't my PO that did the last oil change, it was the dealer I bough the car from.

I can say that I noticed a pressure increase with the Redline with the short drive after the change, but I'll have to drive it more to be sure.

Congratulations! After you loosen every rusted, over-torqued nut at least once these cars get a bit easier to work on :-) The oil fill plugs just need to be snug with the crush washer intact. 95 ft lbs is way too much.

So, whats next? Maybe a new steering wheel or speed bleeders in the calipers?

That's what I figured. 95 just seemed way too much.

As for what's next..probably not much, as I'm not very mechanically inclined :((and way too busy with work)

I can change oil, change a tire, and change a headlight. I can do minor electrical stuff, but that's about the extend of it really. Limited space is a factor, too...it's awfully cramped running my business out of, and having a car in the garage.

However, next on the list of stuff to do is get the A/C charged this week, tires and alignment in a few weeks, have Walker fix a leaky oil return tube...and then new shocks within the next couple months.

did my first a few weeks ago too. took several hours because i had to run to the store midway to get a long breaker bar to get the oil drain plugs off. nothing makes me madder than that. i dont understand why anyone would wrench the drain plug so tight. on my other cars and always my motorcycles, when i tighten the plug, i tighten it by hand and then give it a gentle slight twist with the wrench. i fill with oil and watch for leaks. they never leak and come off easy next time. never had a problem

i used syntec 5w-50. my engine seems to run slightly warmer now. ill try something different next time

valve adjust?


you're missing a lot of the fun if you didn't a)drain oil b)replace plugs c)adjust valves d)remove plugs e)scramble for a container to hold all that damn oil that is now coming out thanks to the crank rotations during the valve adjust f)quick try to cover up the parts that ran into the driveway where the wife might see what happened g)replace crush washers h)refill with oil i)double the speed limit on your favorite country road revelling in just how much nicer she runs with a good valve adjust under her belt!

From your post, can you get additional oil to drain out when rotating the crank?

I need to make this my next project and get one under the belt.
