Confirmation of adapter size for oil pressure gauge pls
I want to verify my mechanical oil pressure as per the Bentley manual, but what I read really threw me:
"NOTE- The pressure gauge will need a 22 mm male thread adapter." ???? I have searched high & low on the web (Pelican, Snap-On, OTC, KAL-Equip) and NOBODY sells a pressure tesing kit with a 22 mm adapter. From what I understand I need a 1/8-27 to M10-1.0 adapter do I not? Thanks...I hope to one day have enough useful experience that I can contribute to the responses on this forum, rather than just asking questions ![]()

Where would you like to measure the oil pressure? On top of the engine or at the rear by the chain box?

I figured I would follow the Bentley manual which specifies the oil pressure sensor on top. I'm open to other locations provided they are almost as convenient and don't require some sort of unusual adapter to connect with.

Well, I think Bentley is erroneous, an SC should have the oil pressure SWITCH on the top and the pressure SENSOR near the chain cover.
But in any event, Porsche has never used a pipe thread on anything, so you can dispense with the 1/8 NPT unless you are using an aftermarket VDO sensor with that thread. So the sender in the top is an M10 x 1.0 that threads into an M18x1.5 into the case. Now, over the years Porsche used a banjo fitting on this port, in the case of MFI, for the oil feed to the MFI pump, and I believe they used a banjo for the Turbo, also. But yours shouldn't have that I dont' think. A word of caution: be VERY careful of the threads in the case, if they are damaged, it's game over. Make extra sure that the threads you have are in fact M18 x 1.5, use a caliper and a thread gauge to measure and stop if you encounter the slightest resistance.

Thanks for the info John, so if I'm doing this via the sender I'm good to go with an M10 x 1.0 adapter - please correct me if I misunderstood.

Bentley Error
Hi John,
In my Bentley manual for 3.2 Carrera that page with photo incorrectly labels the oil pressure switch as "pressure sender". On the 3.2 motor this is where the pressure sender resides: ![]()
