Garage
what do you think of this 88'

Are those seats leather or vinyl?

Are those fuchs 15" or 16"

This is a Japanese import with only 43,000 miles

It obviously needs a bath!

They are asking $24,000 USD

Thoughts?

Did imports in 88 come with the sidemarkers, because mine doesn't have them?

Earo import to Japan

Appearantly it is a Euro spec car that was initially imported to Japan and now this guy is bringing them in to Canada.

It's a ROW car with low mileage. Without more details on the car, 24K US is maybe on the high side. There is always a buyer for every car at every price, but you should ask yourself if a low mileage Carrera is more valuable to you than say a 964 or a 993, both of varying mileage and condition...but potentially in the same price range. I mention this, because 964's and 993's have been pushing the price for Carreras lower and lower. Only the exceptionally clean and well documented Carreras can hold their own against the 964's and 993's that are pushing the lower scale of their value.

A Carrera can be a great all around car. My '89 is more than capable of producing smiles on the track with an aged stock suspension, yet it still makes for a friendly fun car ont he street. Even my fiance' likes to drive it on the street. Mine has a rebuilt topend with a couple of nice bits in it, yet I think I may have a hard time getting 24K for it.

It certainly is not a bargain. I would even say it is high priced.

1988 Carrera Targa for sale in New Jersey

2/3 the price. High mileage I know, but own a high mileage 84 so I'm partial to them.

A little high priced perhaps. To answer Kurt V, in Japan, some people would bring in European cars with left hand drive as a sign of wealth. Just some useless information.

The history sounds a bit fuzzy so a PPI becomes even more important. And since it's been sitting more than driving, have the lower head studs checked while you're at it.

The price is high but low mileage cars always are. It looks clean but photos lie. Go see it if it's local or have a Pelican look at it if it's further afield.

Is it really 43,000 miles? Can you Verify? I only say that because mine had double of that on it when I bought it yet the fan had none of the oxidization and just the same if not better interior. But that does not take in to the factor of possible humidity factors. Price does seem high,,,

With a good history of care and maintenance, a record of having been driven at least steadily though (obviously) not alot year by year, and in VERY good shape reflective of the low "kilometerage", well, it's only money. Sounds high, but not everyone cares about that. Don't know if you can check out the car with help from a qualified 911 Ace. That would be advised a any price.
As Carerras go it might be worth it to some folks. Most would disagree, but most are tightwad, cheap, penny-pinching wannabe misers. If you like it and it's a cherry under all the dirt, then ................but dicker anyway. Make the seller include soap, polish, wax, and a chick.

I would say $18.5-$20.0 would be a fair price for 43K miles ROW car, if there all maintenance is up to date and PPI shows little...

for a little comparision, my 85 Carrera with 89K miles would realistically bring around @ $16-$16.5K, depending on where you live...

Low miles doesn't necessarily mean it will have fewer problems than a higher mileage car... these cars like to be driven.....so, DO NOT BUY WITHOUT A REAL PPI from an independant shop regardless...

Be sure to get a PPI..... Japanese cars are notorious for not having regular maintenance (oil changes, valve adjustments, etc) as many treat them as "throw away" cars since they have strict rules that make it very difficult to own an older car there.
