Dead Coil??

Hey guys just got done installing the engine in my 85 Carrera (long story). Anyway, the car went back together, started, drove great etc. Went to start it tonight and would turn over and not start. Checked the obvious (spark-fuel) and found no spark. Checked coil and found coil was not putting out spark. What was strange was i found power going to both sides of coil + and - with key off. Is that normal?? I had an old coil (see, i told my wife saving all those old parts would pay off!) and now it starts right up!

Did I burn the coil up? Will this problem happen again??

Was using a Bosch. I think I found the problem. Had power coming from fuse box off wrong post. now there is no power to coil. unless key is on.

Thanks.
