How to convert to single windshield wiper mode?
I saw this on another Carerra, only the passenger wiper was installed and it swept full 180 degrees, driver's side was deleted. Looked pretty cool, how is it done?

I removed the passenger side and reversed the driver's wiper to rest to the passenger side. I don't think a passenger side wiper would reach to the driver's side. It would be so long it would stick up over the roofline.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1184531339.jpg I did the same thing, and it actually rained the other night. Works great.

Interesting...I did the same thing, but mine parks a good three of four inches higher in order to get a good swipe of the area in front of the driver. Did I do something wrong? ('83 SC.)

Jim Calzia used a 944 wiper & motor.

Has nothing to do with the length of the blade, I'm talking about where it parks. The one in the photo parks at about nine o'clock, when viewed facing aft. Mine parks at ten. Whatever length it is--I couldn't tell you without running out to the driveway in the middle of a thunderstorm with a ruler--it's just long enough to clear the top of the windshield and no more.

Simply remove the nut holding the arm on and move the arm CCW.

Zoanas, removing the nut and repositioning the arm isn't the answer. If I do that, the arm parks just fine but sweeps an area that goes from--here we're using "clock positions" as seen from the driver's seat--from three over to about noon and back to three, etc.

Here is a pic of the underside of a uni-wiper on a DP935. I am not sure if DP sells a kit.

Here is an old thread about how Rdane did it on his car:

The wiper motor has to run one revolution per wiper cycle regardless. The only way to change the total angle of wiper motion is to change the connection point to the crank arm which is connected to the wiper motor. I did this to mine and got the exact total wiper motion I was looking for. After that you can re connect the exterior wiper arm to the output shaft spline to fine tune overall positioning.

Excellent! That's the answer I was looking for. So you make a connection point closer to the axis of rotation, which makes sense.
|
It does not take much. I think what I actually did was cut the crank arm (the one connected to the wiper motor) with an abrasive wheel so it removed about 1/8"~3/16" of material. Then I just butt welded it right back together. The net effect was that it was shorter. With a little thought someone could do a kinematic linkage diagram, but I just went with a simple ratio change and some gut feeling.

I bent the wiper arm.

question On option 2:
to remove the passenger side arm and lengthen the driver's side blade to 19 in., doesn't it hang over the edge quite a bit on the drivers side while it's in motion ?? |
