Any thoughts on Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
I've been looking at the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 as a 3 season tire for my 911. All of the reviews are good at Tirerack on this tire but I haven't heard anyone here talk about it. Anyone have any experience with this tire?

![]() Although I have not driven these tires on a 911, they came OEM on my VW. My overall impression is, not bad, but I wouldn't buy them again, mostly because of the price. These tires are excellent in the wet, the compound is relatively grippy, but the sidewalls are soft. For track and autocross I had to run really high pressures (45-50 in the front) to keep them from rolling over. If they are not abused, they are really quiet. Driven really hard though (autocross) the tread blocks get pretty torn up, and then they get loud. Also several owners of the VW R32 had problems with sidewall bubbles, although I didn't. It really depends how you are going to use them. For the street, if you drive in the wet a lot, they are good, but if you are going to autocross or track, I would go with something else.

I am on the second year with these tires (1988 car) (the Good Year). They grip very well with all road conditions but agree with the soft sidewall. Sidewall stiffness is not bad, just more flex than I prefer. The only reason I would not purchase these tires again is the soft sidewall. Very smooth and quiet with excellent grip.

I have these on my Miata, and I'm impressed.
I didn't want to pay SO-3 prices, and I like that the Miata will drift beautifully at relatively modest speeds. The F1 GS-D3s are far grippier than I expected. Absolutely great in the rain. The car no longer drifts easily. I can't say much about sidewall flex. I jumped from 14" to 15" wheels, and on a car as light as the Miata, the sidewalls are plenty stiff. |

I have them on the Boxster and really like them. As others have said great grip. First negative I've read/heard about them for autocrossing. I have only used them on the street so far on the Boxster. I plan to put them on the SC when it's time to replace the Toyo's.

I've had them on my turbo cab for two months now on 17" rims. Delightful on the street and I use my car as a daily driver. No track so I can't comment on that.

I have had the Goodyears for a year, and I agree with everything previously mentioned. The soft sidewalls are the ONLY reason I won't buy them again, as the soft sidewalls suck for autocross, especially the quick transitions. If you aren't autocrossing or doing track days, I'd highly recommend them.
Another possible option might be the Avon M500. The M550 (all-season variant) has a VERY stiff sidewall. According to Avon's web site, the sidewall construction is the same. With a stickier tread, the M500 might be an interesting option as a 3-season tire. Prices are excellent, too - 205/55/16's are $77, 225/50/16's are $90 at Tirerack. Let us know what decide. ![]()

Thanks all for the feedback. I can't find these in 315/35-17. Seems that they are on back order everywhere.

Had these on my old SC (on 16 x 7's and 8's). Super on the street and in the rain. Not very good for DE usage though. Grippy on the track, but lots of tread squirm when new. After five track days, the outside edge of the LF tire was gone -- to the point that I was afraid to use them again. The inside edge was still new. Not as grippy as SO3's or Kumho MX. Much better grip but worse wear than ES100's (which also suck at the track). So I'd say it depends on your usage. For all street use I'd say they're a good choice. If you're gonna track the car a lot, go with something else.

They worked wonders on my very light C3. I do understand the soft sidewall part though. The Yoko AVS sports were *much* stiffer. Besides that, they were great on mountain roads, and excellent in the wet.

i have the bfg kdw 2's. excellent grip, wet or dry. and great tread wear considering such a grippy tire. very happy with them. i want to try the kd's, but they only go to 225/16.

I worked for Goodyear until I took an early retirement. I did in-plant design work on various sizes of that tire. Overall it was an easy tire to build with low scrap rates and great uniformity values.
One of the better Goodyear designs. I still have a test set on my SC. |

I have the Goodyears on my DE car. I have used them b oth wet and dry. These tires are fantastic in the wet!
Very good dry grip. I feel these are THE top street tire. Do a comparo on Tirerack.....the Goodyears have the highest Numbers. My son also has the Goodyears on his New Beetle and he loves them as well.

Oh, and all Goodyear NA plants (except Lawton and Napanee, the most modern) have been out on strike for three months so inventory is low. Strike is over so things will be back to normal soon.

The Goodyears came standard on my daily driver (R32). I really liked them, they were reasonably priced, one of the 911 sizes was on sale & they were offering a $40 gift card, so I bought them for my 911 in August from Tire Rack.
So far I like them a lot. I have only done 1 DE with them & they worked well. It was raining for 1 of the DE days. As someone already said, they are fantastic in the wet. Overall, I am pleased. In fact, I will likely buy new ones for my R32 in the spring when I take my snow tires off.

My feelings are much the same, but I'll add them anyway.
I have them on my BMW 330i. For road use, they have been great. Performance is at least what I expected. They are very quiet and comfortable, and have worn *much* better than I thought they would. I really thought I would be through them in 15k - 20k. I do rotate them with snow tires though - not using them in colder weather probably helps something. My only disappointment is that they have hydroplaned in a few cases where I had hoped they would not - but I recognize there are limits to everything. I'd buy them again. |
