Shop Manuals

I been looking for a set of shop manuals for my '86. I've discovered that, not only are they impossible to find, they are incredibly expensive.

Then I ran across this http://www.usfreeads.com/322224-cls.html

Is this for real? Anyone have these CD's or know who this is? Sounds like it might be a scan to me.

Don't know about the CD, or how long you've been looking, but keep an eye on "911 Used Parts" here, because they do show up fairly regularly at reasonable prices. Good luck!

You see them frequently for sale on eBay and yes they are relatively expensive - $300-$400 range or more.

I have the shop manual on CD and it isn't as useful as the printed manual, but it is much cheaper! It's scanned in and saved as a PDF and the search function doesn't work, so it's not easy to find the info you're looking for. I have a PC in my garage connected to the Internet, so it's not too inconvenient for me...

For reference, I think I paid $150 for mine a couple of years ago (from a Pelican ad)...

manuals

I bought a cd manual on eek!bay, turned out to be the Bentley, scanned.

HOWEVER, it did contain a "katalog" which turned out to be the schematic drawings of all the systems - body, suspension, electrical, sunroof, interior, etc etc, PLUS PART NUMBERS, so now I can walk into my Porsche dealer with my head held high and my wallet in position for major surgery and give the counter guy a pretty good starting point, or, when I purchase from Pelican, it is a nice cross reference for Part no's.

I also bought the workshop manuals - do a search on this BBS for insight on their usefulness. I'm just a shadetree guy, doing work that won't get me into too much trouble, and I have to say, 101 and Bentley have been more useful.

I usually cross reference all three books before starting projects however.

Factory manuals do have unbelievable wiring schematics, though; mine are in B/W, I've heard of others that are full color.

I've taken a couple of large [6" 3-ring binders] and subject indexed them into major tasks , components > brakes, valve adjustment, glass, electrical etc > and then printed commentary from this forum pertaining to that task... gives me considerable "mistakes" noted and innovative methods that Pelicans devise to fix theri p-cars..

+1 on the Bentley manual. It covers most things pretty well.

I've got the shop manual AND a Bentley's on CD, both of them scanned in as un-searchable PDFs. I took the time to print them both out, duplexed to take up both sides of the paper, and then inserted them into loose-leaf binders. Works great because, if pages get dirty or unreadable, I just have to reprint them and the book is as good as new!
