Bulk ignition wire - what to get ?
I need to make some custom wires for my twin plug application and am wondering what wires to get?
Our host doesn't seem to stock those and the "usual" suspects out there seem to be: Taylor, Accel, MSD, Magnecore of either 7.0mm, 8.0mm size. Anyone had experience with any of these? I know there's a lot of "snake oil" talk about EFI, carbon, solid core, .... How to tell what from what? ![]() thanks!

I have Magnecore 8.,0 or 8.5, can't remember--I think 8.5--and it came to me highly recommended by Steve Weiner. But these were ready-made twin-plug wires, not bulk wire cut to length. Magnecore makes its own sparkplug end caps in place of the lousy Beru units, and that's part of the beauty of these wires.
Yes, there is a lot of snake oil, but racers seem to prefer Magnecore.

I find the "fat" Magnacors a bit of a pain to properly seat...especially around the crowded dizzy. doesn't fit the wire holders well, neither, unless you drill out the holders....another pain.
Although less Bling....I would favor the 7mm black Magnacors... the "guts" and superior connectors are the same as the blingy red fat 8.5's - Wil

You can buy bulk wire from Belden, but most of the wire set guys have it made to their spec. I had Richard Clewett make me a set of custom wires and they did an excellent job at a competitive price. I woul dhighly recommend calling him.

Thanks for the suggestions folks...
I had Magnecore before & know they are of very high quality. But, as Steve said, they essentially don't sell bulk wires. And they are $$$$ for the length I need (particularly after I have invested in a set of plug ends). In my case, I need raw wire to get thru to the bottom plugs then attach the spark plug ends, hence pre-made wire set doesn't work well. So search continues...

Check with Jerry @ Euro East, I know he has bulk wire. A friend of ours used it to make custom wires for his twinplug setup.

Accell, Magnecor, Belden, Packard, Beru, etc., all make wire sold on bulk reels ... available at better speed shops, and online.
edit: Formerly Packard 440 brand wire is now labeled Delphi, a result of the restructuring at GM ...

Are M3 ends the same?

I am using some very old wires to make do right now. They seem to work and I don't have any EMI issues yet. But it just didn't feel right to use different kind of wires.
So, sounds like I can just go & get some Accel/Belden/Peru/... wires. Quite a few online race/speed shops sell them. Just not sure if there's a difference (other than Magnecore's elaborate claim of better condutivity & EMI shielding).

I bought bulk MSD 8.5mm wire from Summit racing. Relatively inexpensive. I then put on my old connectors for my SC engine. It's the spiral wound stuff and seems to work well. Hard to fit the boots over though.

How did you attach the connectors? Mine are screwed on to a crimped on fitting. I know some have a wood screw type of deal that punctures into the wire but I thought the SC had the crimp and screw fitting. Can you buy the crimp on part with the "bolt" sticking out?
Sorry for the Hijack.

Why in god's name would anybody go to the slightest effort to screw, glue, pound or otherwise attach Beru connectors to anything but their worst friend's dick?

Because I am really cheap...and poor and I can make up a set of plug wires for less than $50 vs. $150+ for a new set.
Also its kind of fun for me to put stuff like this together..... But I see your point.
