Factory Widebody question
 

Hello-
Is there away to determine if a widebodied car is factory? It is a 1979 911. Any help would be appreciated.

I own a 1984 Carrara Factory Widebody and at first glance you should look for the following:

Cross Drilled rotors with red brake calipers.
Green struts (shocks) in the front, Bilstein struts.

If you do not see this suspect it may not be factory Widebody.

To be 100% you need certificate of authenticity from Porsche.

I think the TL was first available in 84 so it would be a conversion. Others will chime in im sure.

The first year that the widebody was available as a factory option(M491) was 1984.

There were a few widebodies done through the factory special wishes program before that.

Easiest clues besides the option codes are 930 brakes, especially in the back where the correct 930 trailing arms will mount the calipers in the trailing position rather than the leading postition used on 911 trailing arms.

Also, not 100% on this but I think Porsche did not offer the M491 (widebody option) till 1984. So unless this was a 1979 Turbo in a prior life, it most likely is NOT a factory widebody.
