Early shift knob material (901/911 transaxles)
I'm trying to determine I if have an oem shift knob for my 70S and was wondering what they were made of - was the material a type of plastic or bakelite? Was the top a clear plastic button? Can you still buy the crush sleeve for install?
Thanks, Andrew M

Yes but no more crush sleeve. You have to get crafty or find a used good one (not usually available).

I just bought some crush sleeves a few weeks ago...
dunno re plastic v. bakelite IIRC, the top was clear w/ a shift pattern. I sold mine since I didn't like it much so can't check for you. |

Yes, it is a hard, black plastic with a clear plastic lens at the top of the knob. The shift pattern is under the plastic, with the pattern in chrome on a black background.
