Didn't all the 911's and 944's use the same sets beginning sometime around 1986?

I'm currently redying the seats out of my dearly departed 944 turbo for installation in my '77; I'm pretty sure I've seen the same seats in other 911s.

Of course, I did notice that the pre-'86 944 seats seemed to be different than the seats in my '77 911... so maybe there are differences?

Here's a comparison of the seats I was referring to.

The seat on the left is the original seat from my '77 (I know these seats were also used in the SCs). The seat on the right is from an '86 944 turbo. I'm pretty sure the later 911s used these seats as well.

As an aside, I found the seats from the 944 significantly more comfortable than the seats in the 911. The 944 seats seemed to be considerably more supportive, while the 911 seats seemed to be quite unsupportive. Just my opinion, thought I'd throw that in there.

Also - I'm not sure about the 911 seats, but the 944 seats were built by Recaro.

thanks .. Yea I see both points.. They seem a bit higher but could be more supportive.. Probably did go to a higher seat, seems like most car manufacturers were doing that in the seventies..

I've been wondering about this for a while, too.
As with Fuchs, I can't tell the difference between late Carrera and 944 sport seats.

For the record....yes...even the 911 seats were made by Keiper-Recaro.

The "cheaper" ( ahem.... "less costly" for Porsche production costs) Lear-Siegler seats, (supplier for the Pontiac Trans Am and such)....these came later, I think around 87-89 for the 911's.

Don't have anything to add, but a thanks! I knew the seats in my SC weren't the originals... wrong colour for one thing. Now thanks to Damion I know they are 944 seats. That will make my search for proper recovering a bit better.

Thanks guys.

I just removed the sport seats out of my 87' for a pair of recaro Pole Positions. The old sports are stamped Recaro.

My mistake then...Lear-Sigler was the supplier at least during the 986/996 and 987/997 era....

When I compared under-seat construction of my 85 Carrera ( Keiper Recaro) to someone elses's '87 Carrera, they were of completely different construction in various cross-members under the seat..

Just thought I'd reiterate -

The 944s used different seats prior to the '86 model, and I believe they were similar to the 911 seats of the same era.

The 944 seats in the above picture were the "late-model" 944 seats - which I believe were used in later model 3.2 Carreras, and possibly the 964, at some point, as well.

The '77 seats didn't seem to have any name stamps on them, but he 944 seats were clearly marked "recaro."
