Server Hell...

Sunday night I will be upgrading the server to the latest version of the BBS software (vBulletin, MySQL, Php, etc.). This is a brand new machine, and it shouldn't be behaving badly. I think (hope) that these upgrades will work well. I've been reluctant in the past to upgrade because the newer versions require more processing power. We got a new server in December, and the CPU loading never goes above 5%. I'm pretty sure that these problems are caused by MySQL coding issues, and will be fixed with the new version.

I am planning on doing this Sunday night.

In addition, we got a firm order commit date for our new bandwidth connection - Aug 6th. So, on Aug 7th, everything should be super-fast, and running wide open throttle. Right now, it's like we have our throttle-body poorly adjusted, and we're not getting all the air we need.

Thanks everyone for your patience as we go through these growing pains, and plan / upgrade for the future...

Wayne I appreciate your hard work. Like many, I have a PP addiction and this slow down has been frustrating. I need more cowbell!

Still the best site anywhere!

I don't see smoke and I don't hear any backfire at all. Take your time Wayn. We all appreciate your hard work.

Redundant T3 lines ought to remove that throttle-body restriction!

>>> I'm pretty sure that these problems are caused by MySQL coding issues<<<

The server logs will tell the story.

Modify the my.cnf (probably in /etc/) file such that the "log-slow-queries" is uncommented, then specify the path for the log. Restart MySQL and tail the log.

Also... you might want to watch the php error log.

In any case... the move from IIS is a good one :-)

And..., you can get two bonded T-1's for about $850 +/- with the router (real deal T-1's). Just an FYI.

Wow, the font seems to have about doubled in size. Any way to set prefs for the old-style smaller font without changing it for my whole browser.

Wayne 962 07-24-2007 06:21 AM

Still working on that...
