Wil, I finally got my gauge installed last night. It's not as asethetic or OEM as yours will be but it probably is a lot less of a hassle to make too.... Maybe eventually one day I'll try to figure out a better OEM looking way to mount this gauge, or maybe one day they will make 2 1/16" OEM look adapters.

But for right now, this will just have to do... I guess this means I am just more lazy and don't want the OEM look that bad if it is going to be too much work. I think the fact that the gauge is recessed gives an illusion that it matches the dash better. I even had space to mount the operation LED and calibration button. To me, it seems when a gauge that small is mounted flush with the dash, it looks a lot smaller compared to the next one over (IMHO)... Tuna Can Adapter
 

Here's another "tuna can" adapter. Holds a fuel air ratio gauge and an electrical connector for the LED speedometer and Tach gauges. The gauges may look a little strange without an explanation. The gauges were put there for view by the video recorder mounted on the harness bar. The dash gauges could not be seen by the camera with a driver in place, and I wanted to be able to replay and have a record of this info so I might improve on the next DE session at Road Atlanta.

The gauges are secured to the dash by a bracket with 4 rare-earth magnets.

The tuna can took a couple of wraps of tape around so it fit snug in the hole.

Tuna Can Update
 

I finally bit the bullet and made an "OEM" look adapter and ditched my temporary "tuna can" one.

I wasn't really sure how to go about it so I put it off for a long time.

After putting it on the back burner for such a long time a light bulb came on and I realized it might be just easier to cut the back off rather than removing the bezel. I cut through the back in a minute and gutted the gauge from the back, so I didn't even have to mess with the bezel. This was pretty amazing considering the gauge came in the mail today and within 2-3 hours later I had a completed gauge adapter (after making a trip to the plastics shop and waiting for the silicone to dry).

Looks a lot better than the tuna can. Including the used guage I spent about $39 total on this project.

Thanks to Wil for suggesting use of the fuel gauge instead of the clock. That was a great idea and helped a lot.

I make these gauge blanks to go along with the tach conversion. I cut the back of the gauge housing off, remove the guts, and replace the glass with a .100 aluminum plate and reuse the bezel rings. The plate is about the same thickness as the glass, and thick enough to be drilled and accept an after market gauge. I used a 2 5/8" dia. Yes I sell them, but they are made to order. There are a few different configurations. The ones in the photo are $40 for labor and the aluminum plate. The core gauge isn't included. I've been paying around $30 for core gas gauges or you could supply one.

yea, i paid $35 for mine incl. s&h, but I just missed a good deal on ebay for $25.

you have a nice looking product. but i'm also glad i figured out how to make my own custom one though, because i kind of like the behind the glass look too...
