915 Transmission questions

To start off, this transmission was rebuilt about a week ago new clutch everything.. here is the deal... it runs real strong shifts nice.... But when I go from 2nd to 3rd it acts like it wont go into 3rd (feels rubbery) sorta like its not going to go in or it may go in but not feel like its all the way in and pop out... after it pops out I can put it in and its fine till I go to 4th (same deal) No other gear does this.

I know there are some shift gromets and such... not sure if this is the problem or not... All I can say is it feels like its real rubbery like I am trying to shift to the gear but it is real spungy and cant pop into the slot...

Help... Im 3500.00 int to the rebuild already and he is 16 hours away.

it's very normal for one or more gears to be difficult to engage until they break in. may take days or weeks. you can speed up the break in by being firm with your shifting instead of babying it. when it resists going into 3rd, keep pushing harder until it does. get up to 40mph, push in the clutch and coast while doing 3rd, neutral, third, neutral maybe 200 times if needed.

wow... well that at least makes me feel better, I mean at least I know its normal... I think I will take it on a trip this week and just work on what you said... Any idea mile wise what it takes to break it in where the shifting is a bit better?

Thanks for your time and reply... I have a lot to learn..
