Spare tire air compressor question - are they noisy?

My SC came with the collapsible spare, but without a compressor. I purchased an Intercompressor (OEM on some models / years) unit on ebay, and it arrived yesterday. I plugged it in for a test. It pumps, but with a fair bit of clatter. Are these fairly noisy little units?
Thanks, Gary S.

i have a working original and it sounds just like any other air compressor of a similar size. it doesnt make any unusual noise...just sounds like a modern day air pump

This one is noisy and slow....

Therefore it stays in the garage and I take this one with me for emergencies...

It is quiet, fast, and works off of the battery rather than the cigarette lighter.

Mine's been noisy since it was brand new.

rusnak, thanks for your reply. I'm curious - how / where did you acquire this unit? It looks a bit like a pump I've seen that came OEM with the Acura NSX.

Spare Tire Compressor - Noisy?
Warren, thanks. Good suggestions in that post - I'll give it a go and see if it improves. BTW, with the forum troubles yesterday, I couldn't find that original post, thus the posting of my question the second time.

I've been carrying one of these on my ATV for several years, and have one on order for the 911. Can run off the cig, but also has a rechargable battery that holds a charge for a LONG time.

And from my exposure, most small compressors are rather loud.

Hi Gary, it's a compressor from VI Aire, I think. I got it from Griotsgarage.com. I've used other compressors for a while, including the factory one. This one is fast and quiet. The chuck has a wide handle for your thumb to lock it onto the valve stem, and a nice analog pressure gauge. I've saved a few other motorists, and gave my old compressors away to people who I know will help other stranded motorists as well.
