Unhappy Not a good day, Lot of smoke!

i took my car out for a spin for the first time in a week, i went for a short trip and everything was fine, but when i returned home the car puttered and died. i started the car back up and Jesus, I've never seen so much smoke. about a week ago, i put a container of marvel in the oil. I've had this car a little over a month now and never had this problem. i also noticed a small puddle of oil on the ground.. i didn't have a problem with leaks until now. I got on the high way and drove about 10 mile's, i still had the smoke..when i finally got home the smoke seem to be dissipating...started it back up after waiting about 15 minutes and it seems to be going back to normal. i haven't changed the oil yet...The druck press was always at 5 and now its hovers between below 4 and below 5...Any thoughts/suggestions PLEASE??
The smoke was white with a bluish tint.

Thats part of the "mystery" of Marvels Mystery oil! You probably thinned the oil down by adding that stuff. What grade of oil were you using before?

I suggest you should dump that oil and put in some good regular 20-50 oil. If you want to clean your engine, drive the car and change the oil more frequently. Marvels isn't much more than kerosene, which thinned your oil right down. I think it will keep leaking and burning until you get it out of there.

Are you sure you didn't overfill your oil? You have to check the oil with the dipstick, motor warmed up, running, and on level ground. Never go by the oil level gauge. Oil in some places takes a while to burn off.

Where was your oil tank level during that 15 minutes you let it idle at the end? Waaaay up in the red?

Maybe putting the Marvel in there caused you to have too much oil in general, and the problems you're describing are the classic "overfill" symptoms.

I checked the oil level at idle after adding the marvel, it was hitting right at max on the stick. i added 4 qrt's of 10w-40 about three weeks ago. when i noticed the oil was low, then added the marvel a week ago. I'm going to change the oil all together...i was thinking of using Mobile 15-50 or 15-40?

MMO should only be used just before an oil change....oil level should be checked when the engine is WARM, RUNNING and on LEVEL Ground....never fill it to the top mark. You'll suck oil into the intake and kill all the Mosquitos for 20 miles.....

Looks like a few rookie mistakes:
-MMO is too thin. Will cause leaks.
-As MikeZ said: don't fill to the top of dipstick, should be between low and half-way.
-I personally feel that 10W40 is too thin. There are many opinions on this but the prevailing thought is unless you are in a very cold climate, use 20W50.

Make sure when you're putting in your new oil, start by putting in 8 or 9 quarts and go drive until the motor is warmed up, check, and add more. If you put in 12 quarts right from the get go, you'll do have the same problem again.

Good question about the oil filter. My opinion--go only with Mahle. You may find it at a some shops in the Chicago area, but I usually order several from our host.

I remember seeing Mahle from our host. I forgot when i placed an order for other miscellaneous items i also added a new oil filter, which is the stock filter from PORSCHE. I can't wait for it to come in the mail now!! i'm glad i ordered it in advance. What can i use for a nice size pan to drain the oil?

Our host sells a pan (I bought one) but I needed a second one asap and found an open top 15Qt pan at Autozone for about $8. No top means there's no problem with a fast flow and it has a spout for pouring the oil into old laundry soap jugs to take back to the store for recycling.

Don't forget to clean & degrease your airbox ... since it probably has plenty of oil in it now from your ride with an overfull oil tank. If the air filter has oil on it, then it needs to be replaced as well!

I strongly suggest that you not use Mobil 1 ... until you resolve whether or not you have leaks. Use 20W-50 Castrol or Valvoline.

You can get a Mobil 1 filter from a parts store but its drain back valve sucks like all other filters available that are not Mahle or Mann filters. Don't risk a dry start. Get a Mahle and a couple new crush washers and wait a bit rather than risk it. You don't have to order the filter here, there are always parts warehouses that stock German parts. You just have to ask around. Call a couple Porsche shops I am sure you will find a Mahle filter that same day.

I use a 5 gallon paint bucket from Home Depot. You have to get the car a little higher off the ground, but you are not going to spill!
