Mysterious Part 911F inside rear view mirror
Dear 911 F Team,
I disasembled 911 F coupe with an inside rear mirror which was not glued to the windshield. Was there ever a version like this? Is this oringinal ? I would apresciate if you could post some pictures to give me some bright light to what i have. Thank you for your support. HKZ Bob |
Do you mean a 911E? The early 911s had a trapezoid shaped base that was stuck to the windshield by a foam double sticky sided piece. Unfortunately they usually fail. My original one lasted from 1973 until 1990. Then no method has ever worked on getting the old style with new foam to work. I tried all the claimed methods: heat base, heat windshield, mount on base first, mount on windshield first, etc., etc. Interestingly enough, in looking at the 1973 factory sale brochure, the BRAND NEW cars in the FACTORY pictures, show airbubbles in the mount! Ha! So, I ultimately bought the newer version with the small round disk that gets glued to the windshield. I never had a problem again.
Note that the only difference between the two mirrors is the base. The rest is identical. Now of course if a 911 F is something completely different and this information is useless, never mind . . . |
