Help On Stereo Removal

Howdy-
I am finally getting getting around to removing the pos jvc radio that the previous owner installed in my 1973.5 T. It is a shafted radio. The back of the radio screwed onto the black "L" bracket welded under the dash. I removed that nut, and removed the knobs and the nut under the knobs. The bezel came right off. The radio is now completely loose, but I can't removed it. The black bracket that is welded under the dash is preventing me from removing it. I can only push it back about an inch, but I need about a half an inch more. I have to be missing something. Can the shafts be removed from the radio? Can the dash piece that covers the radio be removed somehow? Any help is appreciated. I'll post pictures soon. - J

Without seeing a picture...I think you might look again at the bracket that is "welded" under the dash and see that it actually bolts in.... my theory is...if they got it in, I can get it out!!

Good luck

It is definitely welded. I don't have a good picture of that bracket though. It is way under the dash. Apparently I don't have permission to post pics yet, so I have to link.

My suggestion is to bend it out of the way...then bend it to where you need it for the next radio that gets installed.

There has to be a way to remove without reefing on a 14 gage bracket. Someone put it in, so it has to come out. There's something I'm missing that hopefully someone will chime in with. How does the orgininal frankfurt come out? Does it push back or slide out the front? Can the vinyl dash part that covers the radio come off? - J

Got it out. Had to loosen the tiny screws that held the shaft positions. Then I could wiggle it out. What a pain. - J
