original bosch coil question

im wondering which terminal is + and which is -. i cant tell. one wire is brown with a yellow line and the other is a cream color, or beige. if i put a new coil on, im not sure which wire goes where. the original coil does not have a + or -. there is a "A" near one post. this is a 1983 sc -i have checked both the bentley book and the 911sc companion. neither indicate which side is + or -. PLEASE HELP

also is it possible to tell by looking if a coil is going bad in a hurry or slowly going bad? as ive stated in another post, i occassionally get a drip or two from the coil and i lost power momentarily the other night. i took the cap off the coil to see and its obviously grimy and 24 years old, but i expected to see seapage of oil and i do not.

where does the oil come out, at the terminals?

i tried to attach a photo but i dont think the upload function is working

thanks

That coil appears to be in perfectly good shape! Amazing, actually. Leaks usually occur at the rolled seam of the steel case, though it can leak at the terminals when overheating is bad enough and pressure builds up inside.

The 'A' terminal is positive, and '1' or 'B' is negative.

thank you!!!!

concerning the drips, ive had the car for about 4 months and ive noticed a few drips on the distributor cap and couldnt figure out where it was coming from.

what concerns me is that i lost power the other night and the alternator light came on as i was driving down the highway at 60mph. i put the pedal to the floor and no increase in power...it was like 50% was gone BUT the engine did not die. i stopped. restarted and no more problems. got home, saw the drips...did some research and presumed the coil was going bad. BUT, as you say, it looks ok? now im more worried that something else is going on. in the meantime, ive ordered 3 different brand coils...hahah. at least ill have a coil to try when i break down
