Aftermarket CAT heat shield
Anyone use one of the aftermarket (DEC) cats on a 911. I'm planning to replace mine and it looks like the DEC does not have brackets like on the original for the heat shield. I can fab something if need be, but just wondering what others have done. Or just leave the shield on the shelf?

I fabbed a bracket for the shield when I deleted my cat. I got an aluminum yardstick and formed, drilled and anodized it. Used a piece of thin cardboard to model the bracket from the cat cover to a valve cover bolt and then used it as my template for the length, bends and holes.

Yep, I tossed my heat shield along with the cat.

I think the smaller aftermarket cat doesn't need an additional heat shield. There is one already on the engine (right) side. See that clamshell? That's the heat shield. You have to save your heat shield for the O2 sensor, and install it on the new O2 sensor.
There is no need either for the large skid plate that comes with the factory cat. The aftermarket one is much smaller and less prone to hitting driveways and uneven pavement. |
