This is a reproduction Orange Bar right?

I own a reproduction and it looks exactly like this with the dimpling on the back. This guy claims his is an original. Is it?

Try a search. There was a thread awhile back on this exact issue where the seller of the "original" was hair-splitting the definition of "original." Very interesting thread. He never, however, made the claim that the example you gave made. He never flat-out stated his emblems were made prior to 74.

Check out this one, which is authentic.

I have an original that was removed from my 74 / 911. If someone is interested they can send me a PM. It is currently in another location so I can not supply photos but would arrange for pics if somone is really interested.

Fake. You can almost see the brush marks in the red. And that's another flaw. Why is the pic clearly red and not orange?
the pebble grain on the back gives it away. The real ones don't have it.

Wow, and it sold for $515.50! You would think that if they bring that kind of cash, it woud be cost effective to produce very accurate reproductions. Ideally, they would be legit - have a mark on the back or something - but would look like the original on the front. Color matching the enamel to the original in this day and age is not a big challenge.

Well...let's just say that some Ebay bidders don't follow through with a payment after bidding.

Now I am bumming. I went out to check the emblem on my 70S. I am the 2nd owner and it is all original - no exterior repaint and original interior too. The emblem has red stripes and dimples. It looks "old" i.e. it matches the patina on the car. So, am I to assume this is an afternarket emblem?

cheers,
Michael

Hey Shaun,
Mine sort of looks like that on the front. I should remove it to see the back. Are the stripes on yours red or orange? The photo looks red on my monitor.

Also, I notice the Fuchs - do you know of a local wheel polisher?

cheers,
Michael

Michael,
Just because yours is red doesn't mean it's aftermarket. Most likely it's from 74 on but an OEM badge. Period incorrect for your year but authentic.

hi Michael,

the stripes are more orange than red in reality. I think it's my camera or the lighting that make them look reddish.

Harvey Weidman on the West Coast did the wheels, deep 7 and deep 7 by 15. they were first rate. Al Reed on the West Coast is also good. I wouldn't trust anyone locally.

Interesting. I wonder why the original was replaced. If only Porsches could talk!

Thanks for the info Shaun. I have talked to both Harvey and Al in prep to have my wheels done over the winter. I'll just stick with one of them.

cheers,
Michael

What great stories I'm sure! I've got a very odd A-pillar paint code plate on my E with 2 factory numbers stamped in it but no VIN.

Very odd indeed Shaun!

I work in Cambridge behind Alewife but make it in to Kendall Square a few times a month. What do your cars look like? I'll flash next time I see you!

Cheers,
Michael

LOL! Here's the E now undergoing a full system by system restoration:

and here's what it used to look like

the 73 is just a track car project and may be sold this week.

I was doing just a suspension refresh on the E, found a little rust here and there and the project sorta got out of control.

Let me know if you have time to stop by in Watertown sometime (where the cars are), I'm just a few minutes away from Alewife.

Our host does not list this so I'll post this link: http://www.***************/productpage.aspx?pid=109414&name=Genuine+Porsche®+Early+Style+Hood+Crest

How does this work for a reasonable ealry crest? Wayne can probably get them too.

Cheers,
Michael
