Question Front Welt sway bar install

I decided to put a through body anti sway bar in along with the pb bearings. The previous topics and tech articles covered most of the details; however, I'm a little concerned because the inner fender wall doesn't seem very beefy. Is that really gonna hold together with just 3 bolts per side?!

Second, the tech articles call for a 1" hole. I was going to use a 1 3/8" that is already in my toolbox. Is that ok?

Thanks, jt

You're correct. The sheet metal is probably too thin for the added loads created by the slightly heavier chassis. The load on the chassis will increase with larger dia. bars and with the sway bar arm adjusted to its shortest effective length.

Did your sway bar kit come with a reinforcing plate to sandwich the sheet metal? If not, it's recommended to fabricate or purchase such a plate. If your car is going to see a lot of track action, fabricate a section of sheet metal to surround the hole and to double up on the area thickness, then weld in place.

No reinforcing plates. I only got the basic 22mm Weltmeister setup. It would make sense to drop the fuel tank and weld plates on both sides of the tub wall if one were to do this properly.
I do 2-3 DE events per year which really doesn't result in a lot of track time.

Welding is starting to come up quite frequently anymore. I have neither the know how nor the equipment. The rear swaybar mounts probably need to be upgraded next; again welding is involved.

At a minimum, you need the triangular backing plates shown on the left here:

Pelican has them.

And like Sherwood says, extra reinforcement is wise for track duty. Particularly if you plan to run the bars stiff.

It did seem the mounting hardware was missing something, i.e. backing plates and the 6 bolts; those should be included in the package but are apparently extra -- WTH!

Thanks
