Question '83 Targa, Driver's Side Window Rattle - Replacement Felt Weather Stip?

My driver's side window fits loosely in the upper slot of the door. If you move the window side to side it wobbles against a hard surface making a clunking rattle. Same for when I drive with the window slightly down.

Looking down the door slot I can see what appears to be a worn out felt weather strip. I'm pretty certain this is the cause of the problem:

The strip appears to have been riveted in place. Is there a replacement part for this and if so, how do you go about replacing it?

Thanks, Gordo

Bently SC Service Manual p. 640-2 has a good picture of the strip being removed.

Cheers Richard

The felt strip is just held in place by clips. You have to remove the top trim piece first. Thats the black metal molding on the top outside of the door next to the window that holds to rubber weather strip. GENTLY pry it up and off.
Use something that won't scratch the paint, like a butter knife with some electrical tape around it.

Now you can pop out the felt strip by prying it in towards the window.
Order a new one from Pelican and you good to go.

It's a good idea to do this because the longer you wait, the more scratches you will put in the glass.

Hope this helped.

The felt strip that snaps into the door skin (inboard of the window) Left side part # is 901 531 935 20 Right side part # is 901 531 936 20
Notr cheap I paid 100 USD each shipped to me in Hong Kong for these through Road and Track Motorsport who ordered them for me. Only use OEM parts from Porsche Germany on my car.
But they want 280 USD to install them they say they need to remove the door panels - 4-5 hour job.
However you guys say it can be a ten minute job....hmmm lets see

Ron G's description of how to fix this is correct. I did it on my driver's door earlier this summer. Very easy. A 10-15 minute job at most.

Parts were purchased here at Pelican, and are only $18.75 for each side. You can use the part numbers listed above to link to the appropriate page. Here is a link to the driver's side felt strip:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/pel_search.cgi?please_wait=N&forumid=&threadid=&command=DWsearch&description=901+531+935+20&I1.x=4&I1.y=7&FILTER_911M=ON&FILTER_TECH=ON&FILTER_SUPP=ON&FILTER_ACCE=ON&FILTER_CARE=ON&FILTER_STUF=ON&FILTER_PERF=ON&FILTER_MISC=ON&FILTER_GADG=ON&FILTER_TOOL=ON

The strip was very nice, fit well, and is soft. I do not recall if it was a genuine Porsche part, and really don't care. It cured the problem, and is keeping the glass from being scratched.
