Insulating my Cat. to improve A/C

I have a L/R wheel well A/C condensor that I took out some time ago, it has a fan. I took it out because I put a thermometer between it and the Cat while idling and I saw temps of about 125 or more. I think it was acting as an evaporator, not a condensor and putting heat into the A/C system. If I put it back in and wrap the cat with some of that hi-temp silver insulation you guys wrap turbos in, will I get the cat too hot and damage it. I need the cat to pass smog, and what remains of the environmental engineer in me doesn't want to put in a bypass, besides I have to pass smog every two years. Any thoughts. I'm running R-134a and a complete A/C conversion with new hoses R/D and the right A/C oil. I get OK vent temps, when moving, but they climb in bumper-to-bumper traffic. I seem to manage about a 40 degree temperature split between ambient and the vent temps, which is OK, but not great when its 100 degrees outsideI also have a small static condensor under the car, and a Jim Sims-style subcooler, and three muffin fans under the deck lid condensor in the Carrera tail.
