rear shock bushing compression?
Installed new Bilsteins in my SC but am wondering if I have the top bolt tightened down properly. I usually expect to see the rubber bushing compress to almost fill the top washer. I tightened the nut down until it felt like it bottomed out (with a hex wrench keeping the shaft from turning) Does this look correct?

Rear Shocks....
Mike,
It looks like same as mine. Installed shocks more than 5 years ago and numerous trips to the tracks so far. Tony |
Mine look the same. New shocks 5 years ago.

The nut will bottom out. There is a steel sleeve that is in the center of those bushings and the threaded end of the shock passes through that. When you torque down the nut, it has come to rest on the steel sleeve.

mike635, when I did mine two winters ago I went alittle farther than what you are showing until the nut wouldn't turn any more.

Guys - thanks, guess it's probably ok. I'm still in process of trying to track down several clunks and squeeks with the car in the rear. The spring plate bushings look shot so that's on the list as well as sway bar bushings (will replace this week) I'll get it eventually as long as my credit card holds out!

If you're going to replace the spring plate bushings, give some consideration to Chuck's (Elephant Racing) polybronze bushings or Neatrix. Chuck's are more money, but how often do you replace them? They're available from our host.

Maybe I'm hijacking my own thread but, is there an adavantage to going with the polybronze vs. the Neatrix erathane parts? (for a car that will be driven on the street only) I know you can grease the PB bushings but do the Neatrix parts squeek? If so, they will not be an option for me and I'll likely go with the PB parts.
