Wiper reversal revisited
 

A gentleman at DC Automotive today (Bruce was his name) informed me that for wiper reversal you can access the nut you need to loosen but simply pulling out your speedometer from the cockpit. I tried it and sure enough I was staring at the bolt. Much easier than taking out the blower and accessing from the trunk. My car is an 87- not sure if this holds for all years.

The other way I discovered today was by accident. I had reversed the wipers previously via Wayne's book through the trunk. I did not want to bend the passenger side arm so I bought an extra straight wiper arm at DC today (I told Rob I needed one and he literally walked 4 feet to the nearest car, took out a wrench, removed it, and said what else?).

When I was putting the straight arm on the car tonight it dawned on me that why not just unscrew the bolt that holds the arm on, rotate the wiper to the desired location, and screw it back on. Worked for both arms tonight and far easier than getting to the bolt at the motor behind the firewall. Takes about 5 minutes to unscrew 2 bolts, rotate, and screw back on. Any problems with this that anyone can think of?

That would be fine until you switched the wipers ON.

The first stroke, from the front POV, begins its sweep on the driver's side and ends counterclockwise (CCW) at the pass. side, then back to the driver's side to cycle again.

Merely rotating the wiper arms 180º on their mounting stems won't change the direction of the first sweep; that is in the same CCW motion. And in the case of the wiper arms mounted on the pass. side......the wipers will want to further rotate CCW That would force the wiper arms into the lower windshield trim and cowl area.

Have you tried this with the wiper switch ON?

It works the recommended way.

There have been at least two threads about this method. In fact, I posted a couple of months ago about adding it to the tech article here on pelican. That's when I found out that at least one other person had posted about it. I didn't do a search for it, as it was well documented on the tech article and Wayne's book. Glad it was as easy for you!

I agree with Sherwood, if I'm following you correctly. I'd recommend removing the arms and turning on the wipers (cycle them) before putting the arms back on. I'd hate for them to dig into your paint!! That could be very costly, obviously. As my Mom always said, it's better to be safe than sorry...

you know what I did not think about is that I had ALREADY reversed the wipers when I thought about the wiper arm theory. Sad really- I thought I had a breakthrough. Oh wel, atleast they look good and work now on the right side.

It's all good! No worries at all. I think most of us have 'been there'. Glad you got them where you want them. That's what really matters, right?!?!
