Porsche Crest New Member AUS - 85' US Carrera Query

Hi Everyone and greetings from South Australia. I just picked up my first 911, a 1985 Carrera Targa two weeks ago now and absolutely love it! I have only just started to scratch the surface of the Pelican Knowledge base and have already found the information posted invaluable. Thanks

I was wondering if someone can help out. My car has been imported from the US and professionally converted using OEM RHD Parts. Whilst inspecting the undercarriage to see what requires my attention first I noticed that the Catalytic converter doesn't have an O2 sensor.

From researching the posts I thought that all US cars and some ROW cars had Cat's with O2 sensors and I am wondering why mine doesn't? It looks original but I guess it may have been changed at some stage. Is it a Cat or Cat bypass? If it's a cat bypass what happened to the old 02 Sensor/wiring loom?

Here is a photo {Pls ignore the oil leak - another project!}

oh.....and here she is

Thanks in advance!

Cheers
Justin

Are you sure thats a US car? Check the Vin. Looks euro to me (side markers, Amber lens, bumperettes). You have a pre muffler/bypass on there.

The VIN #WP0EB0913FS160155 & Engine #64FS0121 numbers appear to match with US specs according to the tech specs in Waynes "How to Rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 Engines" manual ?

Welcome!

If it has been in fact converted back to euro specs completely that would possibly involve also ditching the cat and the O2 sensor. Mine was imported from Germany, one of those 'voluntarily' equipped with a cat. After imported to Sweden the PO had that stuff removed. Works just fine.

Funny enough, I remember posting the same question here at the time!

Welcome John,
If it had a O2 sensor, there will be a plug inside the engine compartment on the left side about 2/3rd the way in. Nice targa.....

If it should have the 02 sensor and doesn't, doe's this mean the car could be running in a rich state and robbing HP? I'm yet to confirm if it is running the stock chip (job for this weekend)
