Change fuel filter every 6,000 miles?
In the catalog here when you search for fuel filter it recommends changing it every 6000 miles. In the maintenance manual it says every 60,000.
Fuel Filters Keep your injection system clean by changing your fuel filter every 6000 miles. IMPORTANT: Please verify Bosch part # on your current filter prior to ordering. 923-110-176-00-OEM Fuel Filter (Bosch 0 450 905 062), 912E (1976) Brand: Genuine Porsche No Longer Available Unless you drive through sandstorms a lot, isn't this a typo or excessive ?

Depends on the year model, but with a 3.2 Carrrera 6k miles is ridiculous. 60k is probably sufficient but I think many guys around here go for shorter intervals. Perhaps midway, say 30k. Generally, what the factory manual states is good enough for most drivers.

Filtration has a lot to do with the quality of the product. Over the years, the gov't has put massive restrictions on in-ground tanks and there is a lot less leakage into the ground or runoff into the tank. Unless you have some running issues, a rusty system, or really bad gas, I don't see the need to replace a filter earlier than 50K.

This is interesting...let me interject a personal note.
I was doing routine maintenance on a 200,000+ mile Toyota Corolla. For giggles, I decided to change the fuel filter. It turns out that the thread pitch of the filter and the car's fuel fitting is "just" off a bit ( on purpose...dunno why) to require an unusual amount of force to start screwing these two pieces together. Got me nervous taking the old one off too. As sometimes happens.. I stopped the process and went to the phone to call my local Toyota dealer and talk to a mechanic ( yes..they allow that sometimes !). I mentioned my apparent problem and he confirmed this is the way it is...and that I will encounter unusual resistance while screwing it together. No problem..it's simply built this way. All went well. Here's the kicker. He asked "Why are you changing out the filter?". I said because the car had over 200k miles on it and it never was changed. He said in our area the fuel is hardly ever contaminated and just leave it alone..the mechanics at this ( well respected) Toyota dealer/shop NEVER change the filter because they always come out clean and the tight fit gets them nervous. Sure enough....when I went to take the old filter and place it upside down on a white cloth ...tapping it, etc.... there wasn't a spec that could be found. Amazing.
