WOW,Cool ANDIAL Part,
While digging though some stuff today, I came up with this:D Anyone have any ideas when & what engine it was used on???

my guess is it is an additional cooler which goes under a sump.....and from a 6cyl going by the 4 oil return tubes.
cool :) |
It is a deep sump off a late 70s early 80s sc/turbo engine. I seem to remember that they held an extra quart of oil or so. I have never seen one plumbed into the tubes like that before though. Hope this helps.

Interesting, wonder how well it worked. Cool find.

Interesting concept, but what would the liability be with the reduced clearance.....seems to me a Mocal or similar up front would be a little more useful: you'd get more oil in the system and better cooling.

From what a friend told me, this may have been used on late 935s, he is going to talk to a buddy of his who worked at Andial BITD. This will be going on my RSR build:D

I'll bet it's purpose was less to cool oil than to deepen the sump that the scavenge pump draws from. I'll bet it came with a longer intake tube from the scavenge pump. This would also make sure that oil does not pool in an area that interferes with crankshaft throw.

This was part of a package that Jim Busby developed while Andial were doing the engines for his 1975 RSR. It was to remove the proximity of the oil from the Crankshaft to prevent centrifical gathering of the oil mass around the crank. It also was run in conguntion with one way gulp vlaves (2) positioned in the Header collector to create crank case vaccum. I think Jim Mcfarllin was the mentor in this exercise. I forgot Pete Ingcognuto made angle port inserts for the heads that tended to straighten out the ports, It was quite a eleborate modification with a Schrick cam. After it was all said and done and worked the parts were labled with the Andial logo.
