Wiring diagram needed - '81 14 pin connector on relay side
 

Hey there folks -

I'm wondering if anyone here can provide me with the wiring diagram for the 14 pin connector that's located on the relay panel in the engine compartment of a 1981 911SC.

I'll be installing an '85 3.2 and I need to figure out if I have to change any of the pinouts.

I think the info below should work for a bare bones 3.2 install into an '81 chassis:

Can any of the experts here confirm that on the '81 chassis harness side that pins 2,7,8,10,12,13 are not needed?

No I don't. I came up with the above diagrams by doing a 19 page search here on Pelican for "14 pin connector" and another search for "3.2 swap"

One half of my 14 pin connector broke when I took it apart last week. Do the wires match from the male end to the female end of the connector?
Would the above info be the same for an 80 SC?

I believe the info above is the same for all SC's - though I may be wrong.

Also, I received a PM last night about my chart. There may be a discrepancy with the #7 wire. Instead of Blue/White it should be Blue/Yellow.

I'll check on this and change the chart as necessary.

I checked on my '81 and #7 on the chassis side is indeed Blue/Yellow. I'll updated my chart asap.

I'm not an expert in CIS but I do have some answers to your inquiry regarding the following pins:

These are on the engine side of the 14-pin connector.
Pin #2, #7 & #8 - wires going to the engine side unused/blanks.
Pin #10 - (red/white) power to WUR, AAR, & TV.
Pin #12 - (black/purple) is signal wire for tachometer from CDI @TD.
Pin #13 - (yellow/black) power to heater blower.

Pin #10 & #12 are mandatory. You cannot run the engine without these wires connected. Pin #13 is optional. Lastly, the information given on the table you attached have several inconsistencies because of the mixed up in chassis side and engine side terminals.

I just came back to this thread to print off my chart for my own use and came across your post. I agree that pin 10 and 12 are used for CIS but my chart was created for installing a 3.2 (non-CIS) into a SC chassis.

On a 3.2 the tach signal wire is in the DME harness and there are of course no WUR and AAV on a 3.2.

Please advise if I'm missing something. Thanks!

I have another question - is pin 14 (red B+) actually needed for a very simple wiring setup?

I don't think it is. I've been working on wiring recently and I think pin 14 is only used to provide power to the rear fuse panel and relays. If I'm not running a heater blower motor, rear defrost, etc. can I remove pin 14 from the 14 pin chassis harness?

Boy, the timing on this thread was spot on!
Just been analyzing a 3.2 harness checking it against wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual to see what I can use for my efi project.
