Street/Track Brake Pads
Looking for some opinions here.
Standard SC calipers/rotors. What to do about new pads that will be more stout than OEM, but won't kill me if they are cold (IE- strictly racing pads). What, in your many opinions I would imagine, is the best pad (fitting of the brakes in question) that will satisfy me as a street driver, canyon carver (yeah, Mulholland as well), and occasional track demon.

I put the BHP pads on my 87. They are great on the street (no noise) and are excellent on the track without chewing the rotors. I am very pleased with them

I have Hawk hps pads on my car. They squealed a little after I put them on but after the first track day they are fine. Fine when cold but better when hot.
Pretty easy on rotors as well.

Ferodo DS2500's are excellent for what you described...if you want a little step higher go with the Performance Friction PF97's. I love both of these material on the street and track, and they won't chew up your rotors. The DS2500 is not as capable as the PF97's if you are doing more track days...or if your car is a little heavier.
I've tested and and provided plenty of each to happy cutomers. |

I'll second the recommendation for the Ferodo DS 2500. No difference on the street compared to stock. similar dust. less heat transmitted during DE's. and when they get heated up, braking distance is cut in half.
that's on a 72 911, 2500 lbs including driver, small steel calipers, 190ish HP.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
Question though... according to our host, there are no more Ferodo pads for the rear calipers. Am I looking in the wrong place? Anyone else have a supplier website or something local in Los Angeles to pick these up?

I would double check with Wayne about the rear pads. If he doesn't carry them, you may want to try raceshopper.com. I know they used to sell them.

I hear Porterfield R4S is a good pad for the application your asking for. They also make a R4 which is more of a track pad.

ditto raceshopper.
i would also like to add that after 6-7 AX's and 3 DE's, plus street driving, my pads look almost new and rotors are no worse for wear. very happy with the DS 2500.

In case anyone is interested, I went another route.
TRE set me up with PBR Ceramic pads. That, combined with new rotors all around... stopping power abound! I'm still being somewhat conservative on the braking just to find the "new" limits of stopping power. Mulholland can be a little unforgiving if you overshoot a corner. I have yet to get them on a track, but the word is that they're quite resistant to fade. I'll report more after a few more miles if anyone is interested.

I've used Ferodo pads also, and like them better than the others I've tried.

Ferodo DS3000.
They work extremely well cold, and fantastically well with some heat in them. I don't drive my car on the track - just on the road. I am staggered by the performance of these pads with std OEM discs.

Pagid blue worked really well for me they squealed a bit when cold but they never gave any fade on the race track in 20 lap races approx 30 minute races.
The car doubled up as my daily driver My thoughts Michael |

I've got the same question as IFOT but I've just come back from a DE at WGI on the PBR ceramics.
They had enough stopping power for me but I epxerinced at lot of transfer/deposit onto the rotors resulting in a rumbling/pulsing similar to a warped rotor. Hawk Blue was recommended as a replacement ( same as HPS?). Will the Hawk pads operate well enough in cold /street conditons as well as the track? |

+1 - I have probably 7-8 DE's on one set of R4s (and a heavy - higher HP car) good pads - no squeal - minimum dust

My '71 only sees street use, but I am very happy with the Mintex silvers. decent stopping power, no squeal, last a long time and very little dust.

Ferodo Premiums, drilled rotors, no backing plates, 993 scoops. So far so good.
