Question is there an alternative to the stock air box on 77 Targa 2.7 ?

I just bought a 77 Targa from a guy who said the air box blew and did not want to put any more money into it. His loss, my gain.

I do need to buy a replacement air box, but was wandering if there is an aftermarket upgrade rather than the plastic box? I.E. K&N, etc.

Also, can anyone recommend the best repair manual for the same car?
Thanks,
Roger

Our host has airboxes and parts. If you search you may also find a source for an aftermarket aluminum one. You will see that some posters have successfully repaired some blown boxes.

Also, if you buy a factory box, be sure to install a popoff valve.

The best repair manual you are likely to find for your car is this BBS.

I have an aftermarket airbox that is made from brushed aluminum and has a very cool blow-off valve installed that I would sell if you wanted it. I can take some pictures this weekend if you're interested. The airbox is very substantial and looks great, I switched to Webers and I don't need the CIS stuff anymore...

Roger,
I'll get the pics to you this weekend. It's a very nice airbox and I've only seen one other like it. The standard airbox cover and air filter fit perfectly and the airbox straps are used too. It looks exactly like the stock plastic airbox, but it's made of a black, matte finish brushed aluminum.

Hey Art, show the pictures to ALL of us...If it looks that good, maybe some of us will want to retrofit the plastic box with an aluminum one similar to what you have...
