What is it ?

I found this laying next to my sump screen. I was just planning on replacing a leaky gasket, but I think I have bigger issues now.............

anyone know what it is ? The ball bearing is approximately 6mm. for reference.

Check valve retainer, spring, and ball bearing from a 3.2 Carrera oil-fed tensioner ... similar pics have been posted and reported before, several years ago.

oh man if that is so, I will be pissed. I just put new Carrera tensioners on less than 500 miles ago. I replace some wierd ass mechanical home brew job. Perhaps these are from the old tensioners ? Surely if this were from my newly installed tensioners there would be a horrendous noise and it would run like crap yes ?

You can just see the top edge of the retainer in this pic:

Well, you already know what's missing there ... the parts you found next to the oil strainer!

I could say your luck was good, today ... but that would be like congrats to my old boss on surviving the crash of his homebuilt tail-dragger! His response always was if he had really been LUCKY ... the canopy wouln't have come loose and hit him in the head, and he wouldn't have crashed the plane into a tree!
