Seriously Considering this Car, need help justifying the price
http://www.tonygarcia.org/911SC/ Some of you may know this car or Tony and others may have seen it in the classified section. As a car, it's great and what I'm looking for. All the great updates and modifications yet retains the sleeper look. I know how much $$ and time went into this, but the price is what causes me not to pull the trigger. Stepping into the 30K range for a 911 Porsche opens a lot of of other doors and probably why this car hasn't sold yet. Just want to here your opinions.:D |
Well worth it.....
|
Why sell such a competent beauty with so much work and money in it ?? Time to enjoy the fruit of all labor, IŽd think.
|
I live a mile or less from Tony and I've seen the transformation and its a quality upgraded car. I've also driven that car and its scary fast. The interior is great and the paint is darn near perfect. Everything he listed is to the best of my knowledge true. Tony likes to tinker and for him, its the putting the goodies in the car, not just the driving. I think he wants to clear some space and get into another project. Its a sleeper alright, except for the exhaust which definitely gives it away. Oh, did I say its scary fast? He has no problem beating the pants off of just about all street legal 911s at Willow Springs. Did I say its scary fast?

You'll need to take smog laws into account if you plan to street it. Very cool car, love the cloth sport seats, and of course that motor is quite nice.
Some of the smog exempt rules for NV: * 67 or older * Vehicles registered as a Classic Rod or Classic Vehicle and driven 2,500 miles or less per year. * Vehicles registered as a Replica Vehicle. Good luck! |
Tell him that you could buy it, but you'd have to strip off about $7k worth of parts and sell them on ebay one by one - unless he was willing to drop the price and keep his former baby whole.....
|
You couldn't build half of this car for what he's asking. By that reasoning, I say yes. Ultimate sleeper (does an SC really qualify as a sleeper????).
However, this is getting into 993 territory price wise. All depends on what you want. |

Not that I would know anything about that though. |
Every Tom, Dick or harry can own a 993.....all it takes is cash and there are 100s to chose from.
|
WOW! that thing is a MOVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
nice logging on ownership and upgrades/ maintainance ! check out the link
the car cannot be duplicated for well over what he is asking- fair pricing |
Wow! That car is incredible!!
|
It would be difficult to find a $30,000 Porsche that's going to feel like that one. That car looks special.
|
Depends on what you are looking for. It is very well done, but cars like this are hard to sell. Personally, I don't like the color and I would need A/C. I would not buy this car over a nice 993 with working A/C, but if it's what you are looking for and you plan to keep it long term it looks like it would provide a lot of smiles for a long time.
|
Close your eyes and say 'takem" you wont be dissapointed
|
The price is fair. Time to decide what you really want. This car appears to be "turn key" - needs no sorting.

Fantastic car and a great price.
This car while a great build is not very practical for day to day. IMO this is a weekend car. Ultimately is that what you want? |

From the second part of your post, you reflect potential buyers remorse--not unnatural. Take a deep breath, think over carefully what your really are looking for. $30K does not open a lot of doors if your are truly looking for what you claim. |
I'll preface the following comments by disclaiming that I'm not up on current 993 prices.
On one hand, with Tony's car, you are chomping at a vehicle upgraded, restored, and maintained to a fanatical degree...this is truly an enthusiast's car. A "one off" of sorts. The other hand, you might be getting in on the bottom floor of a later model in it's stock configuration (within reason). Granted in it's stock form, it'll be a helluva a performer due to the gains and refinements associated with a later model. |
I'm just curious, why would he (Tony) do that? Take it or leave it. LOL ! if you knew tony's impatience streak you would understand why... He thinks at twice "normal" people's speed
|
Sounds like the car is a great one, and the seller a bit impatient (when he wants something gone, he wants it gone without a lot of hassle).
Those are great people to buy from. Go over there with a bunch of cash, somewhat less than his asking price, and you'll probably drive away with a nice deal! |

Looks like a very, very nice car. It's up to you whether you want a $30k SC or not.
Arguments that it would cost much more to build it yourself don't really hold water since nobody gets 1:1 or even .75:1 for upgrades. I'm impressed by the weight. My SC race car is 2500lbs (with less fuel) and the only thing heavier in my car are the wheels/tires, cage, fire system, SSI's and t-bars. I have light race seats, glass front bumper, only one oil cooler, lightened rear bumper, no rear bumper trim, rear euro crush tubes, glass rear wing/decklid, RS carpet kit, no sound insulation anywhere (even the floorpan), no stereo system or wiring, RS door panels, stock brakes, no side sills and some other stuff I'm forgetting. |
Thanks for the input!
Just wanted to make sure I was seeing the same thing you all see. |
I'm not a shill for Tony, and he is a friend of mine, we live less than a mile apart. Having said that, I've driven the car, and I helped Tony do "a little" of the work on it. You should see the car up close, he did quality work on everything he did. I see you live in Henderson, NV. If you want A/C, I suggest that you look very carefully at the car and see what its going to take to get A/C to work.
|
No question nicely done car. Problem: smog and no AC. Very limited resale market.
|
Of course it costs more to duplicate it! How many modified cars out there sell for what it cost to build them?? NONE!
It is priced right if: -You want a turn key hotrod -You don't have smog issues -You want a sleeper looking car -You have no use for A/C -It is equiped EXCACTLY how you would do your own project. At 30K you do not want to be having to spend $$$ modding something else to make it the way YOU want it. And if you want this car, you want a modded car, not a stock car, so think carefully about how it is set up..... Is that the suspension set up you would put in a car? Is that the motor/trans combo you would want? Is the stock body the way you would do your own project? What about wheels and tires? Each person's tastes are different. I personally think this is a neat car, well set up. Not what I would buy, but for many it is pretty darn near perfect. It sure appears to be well maintained and is in nice shape appearance wide. But a 30K SC has to be the car that YOU want. And one you want to keep for a long time........ Cheers |
That thing is amazing! Talk about a Gold Plated Porsche. I think you should pick it up!

Hey Guys... It's my car.
Thanks for all the compliments on the car. It has been a LOT of work (especially the updated interior). Yes there are a few things left to do (install the new TRE roll bar, install a set of those trick billet lower valve covers, and figure out a nice rear speaker enclosure solution to take advantage of the A/D/S PQ 20.2 amp), but for the most part... it's done. The car has the a/c system in tact with the exception of the compressor. And, I've got the 3.2 compressor and compressor bracketry for the car. And I've already swapped out the Clewett billet single pulley for a Clewett billet double groove pulley in anticipation of reinstalling the a/c. So to put a/c back on the car is really not that big a deal. Smog. You're on your own. But it's never been a problem for me here in SoCal (wink wink). In fact the registration is current through July 2008. Why am I selling it? I dunno. Bored. If I keep it, I'm gonna have to turbo it. That's the only thing left to do (and I've been missing my boost fix in a bad way lately!). This [anticipation of turbo charging this car] is the reason I dumped the PMO carbs and went to the TWM/TEC3r fuel injection. I've just not gotten around to pulling the engine and swapping out the pistions/cylinders/rods for a new set of low compression JE's/aftermarket rod. The rest of the turbo kit is straight forward affair. Then I figured... if I was going to turbo it, maybe I should simply stuff a 993TT motor in it? Then I came to my senses and realized that I'd have to put in a G50 to deal with the power. Of course.. I'd want a shortend bell housing G50 from Patrick Motorsport, steel syncros, LSD. And then I'd for sure want a this and a that. On and on and on.... In the end, I came to the realization that this was as far as I wanted to take this car. I'm done. If I continue on, it will be another $15k - $20k that I put into this car, after selling this engine, to continue the project, and it's simply not the right car to be into for for upwards of $65k-$75k. Who ever buys this car will for sure get a great one-of-a-kind Porsche. Most certainly a sleeper (the muffler gives it away though), and a great weekend fun car that also happens to run with some fast company on the track. FYI... just had it on the track last weekend (streets of willow) with the Shelby club (easy prey :-). Brakes worked great, oil temps stayed in check, car handled amazing, zero issues. Anyway... thanks again for the compliments. So, this car will go. Next up: 993 GT2 replica TonyG |
