pedal cluster clicking

Doing a bit of adjustment etc for the upcoming summer. I noticed when the clutch is depressed it click 's against the gas pedal a bit. It seems like the cable(clutch) and accelerator rod are twisted? can that happen? Never messed with those parts before.. Any input?

Have the Bushings in the pedal cluster ever been replaced?

Are all the springs attached properly on the pedal cluster?

Just a couple of things to chesk...

I had wierd noises and a strange feel to my clutch pedal, took it in to my mechanic (b/c the clutch spring on the pedal cluster is a PITA)...So mechanic pulls the cluster out and rebushed it after cleaning some rust off and removing a bunch of other junk that had fallen in there..

Works like new!

Do you have the Bentley manual? There is a good picture of it in there...Good Luck!

On my pedal cluster, the bushings were worn/gone. That gave the stops on the clutch pedal and brake pedal to click because of the large tolerances. FWIW...

If your inspection reveals all the parts of the pedal assembly are attached correctly and are adjusted correctly rebush the pedal cluster.
Had the same problem on my '74. Even the brake would hang up and freeze because the pedal would not release. Had one so-called mechanic tell me that the clutch was gone and most likely the transmission, too. Have your mechanic do the job if you don't want to. Actually, it was not that hard to rebush the pedals but it was very time consuming to first remove the entire assembly, disassemble the cluster and then reassemble and reinstall. Your bushing will be worn and the pivot points will be rusted. If you have a digital camera take some photos of the pedal cluster at every angle you can get to before dissassembling. Makes getting the springs back in the correct position much easier. 911 Freak is correct. The Bently manual has the very best pics and a very good exploded view that shows how it all has to go back together. It is absolutly amazing how much better the clutch and brakes will work once the pedal cluster is rebuilt.

well it felt tight and everything moves freely enough but the throttle rod hits the fork/clevis assembly just a bit. I think the cable and the throttle rod have to be twisted up?
