summer of un-reliability continues :(
Well, my newly installed monoballs have become a curse. The passanger side monoball failed, allowing the strut to drop (not out of the car, just to no longer be bolted in place)....
contacted rennline, they seem to think the retaining clip failed o fell out, however there is alot of play in the bearing... baught these used off a pelicanite, w/ less then 5k use.... issue is worse then that as well, because its dropped down into the mount, there is no way to get a socket on it. so i pushed it through, and inside there fender there is still no way to get a socket on it... right after my mechanic installed them he warned me that the bearing had some slop in it, and that the washer it came with was pretty useless, he used another washer and made it the same as the damaged one (but not damaged). my plan now, is to remove the triangulated strut tower brace, which will allow me to pull off the top protion of the mount, which should allow me to get the strut up fa enough to get a socket on it.... at this point i believe i'll have to align the lock washer and possibly beat it flat... then pull it all apart... but afte that what should i be doing? how do i want to put it back together? new bearing? don't have the snap ring/slip so i'll need a new one of those... will it need another figgin alignment? thanks Nick oohh, almost forgot all the pictures: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1186696446.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1186696480.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1186696501.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1186696517.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1186696533.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1186696554.jpg |
You should be able to compress the shock and slip it out from under the fender to remove the nut.

Nick,
I know exactly how you feel! I had to replace my engine, replace my clutch, replace the CIS with Webers, etc... all last summer and I didn't even get to drive my car. I'm making up for it this summer and I've put over 6000 miles on my car this year so far. I hope you get everything sorted out and get back on the road very soon! |
ya, i don't really have that much to complain about, it started summer off great...
few road trips up and down island, one to seattle (mairners).... just the last month tying to use it daily (to and from class), its had an issue a week... clutch clevis breaks, grandpa rolls car into bick wall engine siezes after washing, over spray marks won't come off strut drops none of these were even expensive to me, however purchasing some tools to take care of each issue used more of my budget then i allowed for.... damn... - so is the snap ring/ clip a piece i can get somewhere local? or am i now waiting for parts? jp911, your correct, i thought about it, but thought i remembered something about not doing that.... checked into it and i'm allowed to, so i'll probably try that tonight (study goup for the next few hours...actually there right now).... thanks for the advice guys |
