How to get "Birth Certificate" for the Car

I did not paperwork when I bought the car last week. I have heard that I can order a copy of the "birth certificate" for the car that lists options, color & trim codes, etc. Can someone please direct me to a source? Thx... Mark

Many people have said the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity is a joke, and not worth spending money on. Do some searching here on the board...

Is the factory sticker under the front hood still there? If so, that sticker will have the color, option codes, etc. that you are looking for.

It's a complete waste of money for a pre-74 car.

I have one for my 58.....it's worthwhile for that.....woud never get one for any 914 unless it was a sixer....I would think long and hard for a 911 unless it was box stock and worth something.

Porsche could charge $1,000 and a year wait (instead of $100 and a couple months) and they would STILL have a market because if you want to compete in PCA concours you MUST have a copy of the COA.

If you do order one for an early car, be prepared to have it show up with incorrect options listed that were not available for that year. This can be corrected, you just have to make a few calls to PCNA. Good luck!

If these is one purpose of this board, it is to advise and give warning to other newer members. I've repeatedly told others to save their money. It seems like a nice idea until you get it and realize it's a waste of money. You've been warned.

Here is great example of what John and Sandy are talking about.

I just yesterday recieved the CoA for our '71 S Targa, which is VIN 9111310226. I have been meaning to get one for quite a while because I was hoping to find out the original options. Well here is what I get.

VIN: 911310226

Model Year/ Type: 1971 911 T Karmann coupe

Engine Number: 6210442

I could not believe my eyes when I read this information. To start with the 4th digit in the VIN was left off and from there someone determined the VIN was a '71 T coupe with a '71 2.2L E motor!

So this morning I called PNA and started the process of cleaning up this mess. So yes the CoA does seem to be a bad joke especially for early 911s.

C of A...

Mark,

Like the boys said, It's not worth the money unless you want to add a framed Certificate from PNA on your "Love Me" wall... When I got mine they had left off the 491 Option, which for a TL owner is very important. The PNA lady was very nice and corrected it, but if you didn't have your option sticker on the underside of the hood you might never know a lesser option that was suppose to be included on your car.

I invested in one when it was $35 for my '65 coupe. It provided next to nothing. A waste of money.
