Just a quick note. I had plugs in for 50K on 1985. Measure the gaps and not too bad (but I am old enough to have done plugs in ignitions with points).
One plug snapped off at the base due to hairline fracture. Used a #11 Easy Out bit ($11 at Kragens) with socket with extension wrapped in duct tape to approximate porsche tool and a 3/8" breaker bar. I was using the breaker bar with 10mm hex to turn porsche tool. Reinstalled with 10mm hex wrench, not breaker bar. |
Thanks for all of you guys' comments on this....very appreciated.
TRUST me,..I (myself) approached this very carefully,..using much penetrant over several days....it didn't feel right and seemed to be at an angle.......(to me..( although I did not use a mirror to get the visual (makes good sense, what Superman states). I will say that the professionals stated they dtected an angle, as well...although I did not confirm with them if they actually LOOKED at it....damned good question to pose......however,..3 different mechanics giving it a go? that has to mean something? I will not be the one to attempt a long breaker bar for this,..but will certainly go ALL OUT come show time.........The visual suggestion by Superman is quite practical. (THANX). I plan to do this, to provide me own piece of mind... And yes,..the breaker bar will be the epilogue of the story... It's just one of those *^%^$*&^'g things that SOOOO pisses me off....damn she's running so good.. Gunter,..I try to use common sense frequently.......(much from this board...) I do understand your point "for this situation" as to engine temps while trying extraction. The pros took the same approach...no secret....and THEY backed off....all I need to know, bud. ..yep, it's engine drop time, buddies....she appears to be angled in there(maybe NOT seized....not sure..),..and that means only one thing (as far as I know...)...It's sert time..... In closing, (and should this be the problem), what is the best repair process? Time sert (sp?) the way to go...someone clarify this process for me..... Thanks, guys. My best, |
