Headlight alignment

Need instructions on how to align newly installed H4 headlights.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. We typically ask newcomers to post a picture or two and to include your location in your registration information. You can also add a signature line where it is helpful for you to give us the year and model of your car. That way we can help you better. If you look at this response, you will know I own a 1973.5 911T and live in Oregon.

To answer your question, check out Daniel Sterns Web Site: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/. He has a tech section that describes a method.

This is how I typically did it....I'm sure there's a harder and/or more expensive way, but why bother?

1) Take wifes car which presumably has well aimed headlights.

2) Park on level ground 20 feet or so from a wall. or garage door. or whatever.

3) Turn on wifey's headlights - mark the position of the front wheels and the hot spots on the wall with chalk.

4) Pull the porsche up to the marks and turn on the lights.

5) adjust the up and down and side to side adjustment screws (it's obvious which are which) until the hot spots line up with the marks you made on the wall

done.

ez no?

Thank you all for your responds and help. Yes, I have a Porsche 911 1973.5 T which I am converting to a RS clone.

I think he said H 4's. Only 2 adjuster screws. I do about the same thing as the garage door trick, except I don't use another car for a benchmark. And, if you can park in a big lot perpendicular to a fence, etc., you can dial in exactly what YOU want instead of specs. Move the car closer and further away until you're satisfied. Then, do a road test and come back and fine tune what you want. I like the lights centered on the horizon at about 100 yards and centered on the road. The heck with running the lights to the right. All dangerous objects don't appear on the right.

I tend to run my lights just a wee bit higher than spec seeing as how high beams are illegal to use on the highway. If I do use the high beams, they light up the whole scene.
