Radio Code ?

I have a '78 SC with what I believe is the stock Blaupunk radio. It has to have a code entered to activate after the battery is dis/re connected. I know the code and it's worked before but AFTER I enter the code I can't remember what to do to activate the radio...another button to push? If I just leave the code and do nothing it goes back to flashing 'CODE' after about 15 sec.

Damn, I can't remember sh?t these days

Try pressing the 'Seek Up' button.

Les,
That was very helpful...thanks. Actually my unit does not look at all like the one pictured but I do have a 'see' up/down knob on the right. I tried 'up' but not much happened... then tried the preset #5 and it came on. I had tried that same button many times before to no avail but for some reason it worked this time.

I'd really like to have a newer unit with a CD and Aux input for the ipod, etc. but most newer units don't seem to have a decent AM sound/receiver and I usually listen to talk radio. If I want music I do CD's or ipod. Most newer units are also too Bling for my taste with a lot of flashing colors and mod designs, etc. Guess I'm just an old fogey ;)

Anyway, at least I have sounds for now...until I find a good replacement....with XM maybe.

If you have to enter a code to get the radio going, it is definitely not the stock radio that came with the car in 1978.

Blaupunkt, with a 't'.

Means 'Bluepoint' in english. See the little blue dot?

Have a pic of your radio, or a name?

Yeah, I realize I mis-spelled it. Although I did get it working I'd like to replace it with a more modern/versitile unit.

Yeah, I do see the blue dot...did not know about that...thanks. Mine says 'Newport SQR29'...think that's right...old eyes, ya' know. I guess it's not original to the car but hopefully a newer one will fit right in the same slot w/o mods.

I have been looking on the Crutchfield site and they have a nicely done site which lets you pick features you want to narrow the search.. They say/imply there that these units just basically slide into the existing slot which they call a 'Euro DIN' hookup. Dunno what else it takes to trade them out. Perhaps you can lend advice. Really would like an XM ready one but BP does not seem to make such...or at least Crutchfield does not show it. Most impt. to me is no bling like you'd find on a kids ricer car and good AM reception. Prefer CD instead of tape which I have now and ext. aux would be nice. Guess that last thing is pretty standard now.

If you have more input/advice I'd be grateful...SmileWavy

Drdogface,

Glad that got you going in the right direction.

I called a buddy at the VW place up the road about it. He suggested a web search as he knew they were a bit different from what I was used to.

Good luck in your search for tunes.

You might try this site: www.swstereo.com. They might be pricier than Crutchfield but they are very knowledgable about Porshe stereos.

Actually what I just found is interesting. I did a google search for the model and found the site for Continental Imports...which I think was linked to above also... They have a page dedicated to code req. for various models of Blaupunkt...scroll down the list of models and open the page for whatever you have. Full instructions on how to code in the numbers and lock in for use. Pretty nice. I guess I'm not the only one who forgets this stuff....;)
