2002 Carrera 2 AC Unit Problem?

2002 Carrera 2 with 34K miles. AC worked great earlier this week, but now is kaput. Just bought car on Monday; so I have no prior experience with this particular vehicle.

Here's what happened:
Was running AC, switched to defrost for a minute. Fan quit blowing and still will not blow under any circumstance. No messages available on the onboard computer. Not only will the fan not blow, but the A/C button will not even make the A/C indicator light come on. All other electronic indicators on the center console--"auto" button, temp +/-, fan speed +/-, vent selection, etc. work same as always.

The fuse box map indicates three fuses related to A/C. I pulled and inspected those three. None appeared burned out, but I stuck replacements in nonetheless. Made no difference.

Ideas? One curiosity...is the AC and fan one unit? If so, anyone have a ballpark on part/labor cost to replace?

Upside is that open sunroof and two open windows can circulate lots of 100 degree Memphis air... ;)

Whhooaa! Dude - second time in two days.

This here is an air cooled 911 forum. You my friend have a water cooled 996. You're going to get not much here except maybe a little bit of roughing up (just kidding - these air cooled guys are all right...I used to be one of them).

You have to come on over to the Rennlist 996 forum. That's where we hang out and where you'll get some reasonably straight answers. Chek it out:

Wayne has a 996 forum here on Pelican too, but it doesn't see much action on acount of the strength of the air cooled forum.

Thanks for the reply and link. I'll check it out.

I'll keep checking here in case one of the air-cooled guys knows about a lowly water-cooled problem... :o)
