Stuck in the rain in South Bend
Hello,
I picked up my car on Wed in Fresno and began my cross country drive(will post later). The rear tires looked to be ok before I left and the mechanic said I will be fine, but they have really deteriorated over the past 2000 miles, must have an agressive negative camber. The inside is practically bald, I hit a really bad storm in Chicago and was sliding all over the road. I don't feel comfortable driving it like this in the rain, and it looks like I'll be in thunderstorms all the way home. I am going to have to get new tires on the rear before I leave. Luckily I have been told by a pelican that this is the headquarters for Tire rack. I have 7's and 8's on the car, currently has 205 50 16 in the front and 245 45 16 in the back, BF goodrich G-force in the front(new) and comp T/As in the back. I was hoping to ride out the tires until I found a used set of Fikses or Kodiaks, so I am not looking for a long term solution and would like to not have to change out the fronts. I am limited to the selection of what is at Tire Rack in 245s it is Avon, Fuzion, Yoko, Bridgestone in 225 it is BF goodrich, Kuhmo and Yoko. I have read through many threads on tires and have found advocates for every brand. I will not be tracking the car with these tires, and dont care if they wear somewhat rapidly, I hope to have another set of rims in the future. Should I stay at 245, given that I have 205s in the front or should I go to 225s? Any suggestions on tires, I have Fuzions on my maxima and it has been a positive experience so far, but that is an entirely different car. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

I like my Kumho Ecsta's
They work well in the rain and dry and have worn wery well. I have two track days on them and they still have decent tread left for daily driving.

Why not just go with the same brand, BFGoodrich, same model, G Force and the standard rear size?

Kumho
Second on the Kumhos. I've had Ecsta MX's on two Porsches and they have been great. A recent thread here also had good feedback for the Ecsta SPT.

Thanks for the input.
Mitch I was thinking about the BFs, the only issue is that they seem to be backordered. |

If you can, find a place to align it correctly for you so you don't wear out the new tires.

As Roger says, if you can get it aligned that is one thing. If your going to continue to drive with suspect alignment for sake of getting home, then buy cheap as you might have to repurchase again in near future. Get some Sumitumos for temporary tires that perform "ok".
