Steel Brake Line Removal Problem

Hi,
I'm much deeper into my project than I really wanted to go.
I'm trying to remove the long steel brake line that runs thru the main cavity of the car, from front to rear.

I have the rubber grommets removed at either end, but the brake line is still resistant to move back and forth.

It isn't "free", as if it's still held captive by another rubber grommet I can't see, somewhere in the body cavity.

I've checked in the shift coupling area, and the cavity by the pedals, but I can't see what's holding it up.
Does anyone have any ideas why it doesn't move freely?
What do I do now?
Thanks all.

Mitch

Mitch, it's probably held in by metal tabs on the inside of the tunnel. You may need to remove the parking brake or shifter to see if it's held up in there.

Please disconnect your battery if you haven't already done so. The main positive cable and the fuel lines also run through the tunnel. In my '71, there is a sub-tunnel within the tunnel where the lines run, and inside there are plastic insulators that hold things down.

Here's the link to the legal PET, you should be able to save it to your local hard drive.

Look on page 292. Illustration 604-00. Part No. 28, hose piece, that's probably hanging you up.

Hey John,
Thanks so much for the quick response.
I'll check those areas tonight.

I didn't want to remove this line, due to these issues, but the threaded union back by the transmission is rusty, so the crusade to remove or restore rusty pieces continues.
