Sport Seats for an 84 Targa

So I am thinking of upgrading to sport seats. I have standard (comfort?) seats and it's about time to have them reupholstered and I have talked to a couple of reputable upholstery shops with experience in converting but it's pretty expensive; about a grand more than the reupholstry.

First has anyone had this done and how are the results (I am assuming the frame is the same and new foam is obtained/made)?

Second, It might make sense to get sport seats and have them reupholstered for the same price (they seem to go for between 500 and 1000). What years would fit this car?

Last if I get sport seats, any reason not to try and find a late (up to 89) with power? Wiring is no biggie. Again, what fits?

Thanks.
Karl

I don't think the frames are the same on factory sports and regular seats.

You'd definitely be better off finding some ratty sports seats, and having those redone, rather than spending $1000 extra to have your regulars converted.

The biggest reason for not getting power seats is they weigh a ton compared to regular seats, most people don't really need them (911s usually have only one primary driver and the manual seats are quick and easy to adjust), and it's just more motors and switches to break. I think in general, for the 89 and earlier cars, most would prefer manual sports seats.

the,
any clue about what seats fit what year? I know weight reduction is a fun topic here, but my car is a daily driver and I am always hauling something around, I have and use air, heat, radio etc. so what's a few more pounds I can deal with motors and switches. Anyway, I am kind of leaning toward searching out some ratty seats and then having them re done but I would like a definative answer about the frame and also need to know what physically fits, both power and non so I know what to shoot for in my search. Thanks for the quick feedback.

Certainly any seats from 74 to 89, power or non-power, will bolt right in your car. I'm pretty sure 90 to 94 will bolt in, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I bought a pair of sport seats for my 84 Targa from Jason Cullen fully restored for $900.00 a couple of years ago and they are awesome. All I had to do was bolt them in and I was done. I have the 79 style sport seats, they looked like they had a bigger seat bolster than the later ones. He has a fully restored set on his site - http://www.euromotorsltd.com/ for $1k and these look like the later model sport seats.
